Permission to Conduct Non-Affiliated Research
Non-Affiliated Investigators (whether affiliated or unaffiliated with CUNY) in this context are not connected with Baruch College, nor collaborating with Baruch College investigators, but wish to recruit participants for their research from Baruch College. Non-affiliated Investigators are required to obtain site permission from the Office of Research Compliance & Outreach (ORCO) prior to contacting Baruch College students, faculty, or staff for research recruitment purposes, as per the protocols approved by their primary institutions’ IRB.
The IRB approval letter from the non-affiliated researcher home institution, along with additional documentation, and a completed Permission to Conduct Research Form must be submitted to the ORCO Office for consideration. Please note, submission of this request does not guarantee permission to recruit at Baruch College.
Completed requests will be reviewed by the Office of the Provost or designee, who will conduct a cost-benefit analysis comparing the projected costs and risks of participation against the proposed benefits for Baruch’s subject population or to the institution. Only minimal risk studies will be considered. Greater than minimal risk studies will not be granted site permission to recruit at Baruch College.
Email Recruitment: It is against Baruch College policy for non-affiliated researchers to recruit students directly via email. Unaffiliated Investigators may contact Baruch’s department chairs to have departments send emails on their behalf. Please note, department chairs must be contacted individually and not in mass emails.
In-Person Recruitment: The use of Baruch College common areas (i.e. hallways, cafeterias, etc.) by non-affiliated investigators for research purposes is strictly prohibited. To access the campus, unaffiliated investigators will need a valid Photo ID, and a Baruch College contact person to go through security. Unaffiliated investigators and Baruch College contact persons are required to review and follow the Baruch College’s Campus Visitor policy.
Please contact the Research Compliance Specialist at the Office of Research Compliance and Outreach if there are any questions.
